One Health Case Competition

The UF One Health Case Competition is an annual, student-led event that brings together students from across the University of Florida to address complex challenges at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health.

One Health Case Competition

Real-world challenges. One Health solutions.

Through an intensive 2-day experiential learning activity, interdisciplinary teams apply their knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills to develop practical, evidence-informed recommendations for a real-world One Health issue.

The top winning teams take home cash prizes. In 2025, the first-place team won $ 2,000!

About the One Health Case Competition

Each year, interdisciplinary student teams tackle a new real-world One Health case involving interconnected human, animal, environmental, and societal challenges. Working within a fixed budget, teams evaluate stakeholders and competing priorities, develop feasible evidence-informed recommendations, and present their solutions to a panel of judges.

Throughout the two-day competition, participants engage with faculty mentors, subject-matter experts, and professionals representing diverse areas of One Health, while building practical experience in interdisciplinary decision-making and communication.

Bring your perspective to the team

Effective One Health depend on people who approach problems from different perspectives. Whether your background is in health, science, policy, communication, business, engineering, or another discipline, your expertise can help a team better understand the challenge and develop a stronger response.

Join students from across UF in developing innovative solutions for a healthier and more resilient future.

The competition welcomes students from all academic backgrounds. Past events have brought together UF students from nine colleges, including public health, medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, engineering, business, environmental sciences, policy, and other UF programs.

Faculty experts and professionals from academic departments, government agencies, and public health organizations have also contributed to the competition. Previous contributors have included representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Florida Department of Health, helping participants connect classroom learning with interdisciplinary practice.

Since its launch, the competition has continued to build a growing One Health community at UF, supported by faculty mentors, expert judges, sponsors, and community partners committed to interdisciplinary education.
